Looks really great, good quality. I have not stained or painted it yet, but am very happy with the appearance.
I was disappointed that there were not any directions included on how to put it up. Luckily I had two relatives over that are experienced handymen, and they figured it out.

I'm so happy that we ordered this mantel! It looks fantastic in our living room. We ended up having to cut 3.5 inches off of the bottom of each leg, because our fireplace is not a standard size (and I couldn't find anything to fit it). The mantel is well-constructed, was very easy to prime and paint (I used white semi-gloss paint and it stands against a mocha colored wall). Unfortunately there are no studs in our wall (facade wall) so we had to attach it with liquid nails. I was a little nervous about this since it's heavy, but it hasn't fallen down yet :) Great product, well-made, and well worth the cost.

I loved this piece when it arrived. [...] well made. We were so looking forward to having this piece compliment our kitchen cabinets and great room wall unit. We chose a dark pinecone-colored stain ... everything except the decorative molding on the face of the piece stained beautifully. That molding was affixed with staples and it appeared that wood filler was used to cover them. Even though we sanded and prepped the fireplace surround properly, the stain did not take to the area where the wood filler was applied and wiped ... even sanded again after first coat and applied a second ... so we had beautiful dark wood all around and nearly white splotches where the stain did not take. We decided to paint that molding, but we're still not happy with the result and we're trying other options. Disappointed that what was represented as a stainable piece didn't turn out that way. Now we're trying to make do after spending the price we paid. I would recommend it to others if they use a light stain or if it were to be painted.
