A few years ago, I had a terrible experience with a fireplace mishap. The flue malfunctioned, no tools at all existed, the room filled with smoke, and all alarms were set off. This year, my sister told me that at Thanksgiving one of their smoldering logs had fallen out of the grate onto the carpet, and they had no tools!! I'm a thorough shopper always preferring functional gifts, and price is not my main concern. Strangely, I noticed that many tool sets contained no tongs which are the most critical item when it comes to safety. This set contained all of the main tools and was midway in the price range. The brushed brass will help prevent stains, and my sister said that they feel safer now and actually lie near the fireplace to watch movies. They use the fireplace nightly because it is open on both sides. She and her husband are pleased with how easy the variety of tools are to handle. It has certainly put my mind at rest. The only drawback is that the handles are so close together that in an emergency, it might cause fumbling and waste precious time. In addition, I think gloves (not thick oven mits) closeby would be an added safety feature and could be sold as an accessory.

The shovel is shallow so won't hold many ashes. The log mover won't handle heavy logs. The poker is weakly welded. The implements are too long for good balance. The handles are pretty and it looks good sitting there but it is impractical for someone who is heating only with wood as I am. I was disappointed and will replace before winter sets in.
