[...] This fireplace mantel exceeded my expections. I ordered it unfinished and it was so beautiful that I didn't want to put a finish on it, however, I had to in order to coordinate it with the room decor. Needless to say, it stained beautifully. Looks really rich and "expensive." I have gotten compliments from my builder and the various workers. Even my fireplace surround installers were very complimentary; this was really special because they see a lot of fireplace mantels. The only problem I found was that one of the corners were not mitered correctly and there was a gap where the two pieces of wood connected. My carpenter said he could fix it with wood filler. I contacted Hayneedle and they said I could return the mantel and order another one, but I didn't want to have to go through the process of waiting since we wanted to get the room done. Therefore, hayneeded gave me a credit for the cost of my carpenter to correct the problem. By the way, my carpenter felt that aside from that problem, the mantel was well constructed of good material. I would have given them five stars had it not been for that problem which I felt should have been caught during inspection. Hayneedle was very cooperative and I had no problem. I will continue to order from them. again.

The main down fall is that if you mount it to the wall and you have tile below it, it does not lay flush and no options to change that.
